Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know whether I'm a good candidate for plastic surgery?
Plastic surgery can greatly enhance your appearance and your self-confidence. If you’re physically and emotionally healthy you should be a good candidate.
Those who suffer from serious health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, a bleeding disorder, heart disease or depression should not consider cosmetic surgery. Being honest about your medical history, and realistic about your goals is crucial so Dr. Panayi can make an informed and realistic decision about what procedures may be best for you.
What is the best age to have plastic surgery?
There’s no “right age” for plastic surgery. Some procedures such as breast augmentation, liposuction, nose jobs and dermabrasion tend to be more common for younger patients, while older patients are more likely to seek procedures such as an eyelid lift, brow lift, facelift or neck lift. Dr. Panayi holds one-on-one consultations with every patient to discuss and evaluate your goals prior to making a decision.
Is plastic surgery safe?
All surgical procedures entail some level of risk. Dr. Panayi and the rest of our medical staff are highly trained and have many hours of surgical experience and will do everything possible to minimize complications during your surgery.
It is, however, extremely important that patients to be honest about their medical history during consultation, as well as follow all your pre- and post-operative instructions. This is the best way to ensure a smooth surgery and recovery process.
What does it mean for a surgeon to be board-certified?
Board certification provides assurance that a doctor has undergone formal training in plastic surgery. A plastic surgeon cannot earn board certification without having completed residency training in plastic surgery procedures. Dr. Panayi holds board certifications as a plastic surgeon in Germany, the UK and Greece.
What precautions should I take before surgery?
Patients must stop taking any non-prescribed supplements (vitamins, minerals, herbal products) 1 week prior to surgery. You must also consult with Dr. Panayi if you are taking aspirin, ibuprofen, and similar products with anticoagulation properties about when or whether to discontinue them before surgery. Smoking should be cut down but preferably quit smoking completely at least six weeks before your surgery to avoid wound healing problems and post-operative complications from the general anaesthetic. It also preferable to stop the contraceptive pills four weeks before surgery.
When can I resume normal activities?
While the length of the healing process differs from one individual to another it also depends on your anatomy, as well as the type and number of procedures you receive. In general, patients return to normal activity in one to two weeks even though activities that require hard work must be avoided for at least a month.
Is plastic surgery covered by insurance?
Cosmetic surgeries are elective procedures, so insurance does not cover such expenses. Dr. Panayi can help you determine if, and to what extent, insurance you may be entitled for insurance coverage.
Are there less invasive options to improve my appearance if I’m not ready to commit to surgery?
At Perfect-Blue, we offer several treatments that can restore a more youthful overall appearance. While the results from these products aren’t permanent, they are long-lasting, and unlike surgery, they require no recovery time. Dr. Panayi can help you choose the best treatment tailored to match your needs and goals.
How do I find out about the price of a procedure?
In contrast to many clinics, we do not disclose prices for procedures. During your consultation, Dr. Panayi will be happy to assess your problem and provide a custom design solution to it so the price depends on the extent and type of procedure.
If I live abroad can I have an online consultation?
For international patients, Dr. Panayi provides online consultations though you may be asked to photographs prior to the consultation. For more information, you may be asked to the travelling patients section.
